Gone Gone Gone by Hannah Moskowitz

Gone, Gone, GoneGone, Gone, Gone by Hannah Moskowitz
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Gone Gone Gone tells the story of Craig, a gay fifteen year old, in the wake of 9/11. Craig's ex-boyfriend, and first love, goes crazy after his dad dies in the Pentagon on 9/11. Craig adopts a ton of animals as his coping mechanism. In the beginning of the book he wakes up to find them all gone, after a break in. Throughout the book Craig struggles with is feelings for his ex-boyfriend, his blossoming and confusing feelings for new boy Lio, his sadness over his animals getting loose and his fear over the sniper killings that are going on in his hometown.

The author did an excellent job of giving voice to Craig and Lio. She captures the essence of what it feels like to be fifteen and full of conflicting emotions. Her characters have depth and beauty. It's very easy to relate to Lio and Craig. The book is evocative and beautiful I read it in one day, and I enjoyed every page of it.

View all my reviews Goodreads Synopsis: In the wake of the post-9/11 sniper shootings, fragile love finds a stronghold in this intense, romantic novel from the author of Break and Invincible Summer. It's a year after 9/11. Sniper shootings throughout the D.C. area have everyone on edge and trying to make sense of these random acts of violence. Meanwhile, Craig and Lio are just trying to make sense of their lives. Craig’s crushing on quiet, distant Lio, and preoccupied with what it meant when Lio kissed him...and if he’ll do it again...and if kissing Lio will help him finally get over his ex-boyfriend, Cody. Lio feels most alive when he's with Craig. He forgets about his broken family, his dead brother, and the messed up world. But being with Craig means being vulnerable...and Lio will have to decide whether love is worth the risk. This intense, romantic novel from the author of Break and Invincible Summer is a poignant look at what it is to feel needed, connected, and alive.
